A car is a substantial prize—and something you may have to insure, collect, store and maintain. It is worth checking what owning that particular vehicle would involve before entering.
Establish exactly what is being offered
Look for the make, model, version and condition. Is it new or used? Does the promotion award the vehicle itself, a lease, a period of use or a cash amount described alongside a car? Those are different prizes.
Read the organiser’s terms for the specification and included equipment. A photograph may be illustrative. Do not assume that an optional extra, personalised registration or cash alternative forms part of the offer unless the terms say so.
Check the entry route first
Our editorial focus is free-entry competitions without a purchase requirement. Many sites use similar language for quite different promotions, so inspect the actual route you plan to use. An advertised free route may be postal and involve ordinary postage; that is different from an online entry with no postage cost.
A route is not confirmed simply because a directory labels the offer “free”. Check how to submit it, whether limits apply and the arrival deadline. We do not recommend buying entries to improve a chance of winning.
Put the ongoing costs on the page

A high value does not remove practical constraints
Think about parking space, passenger needs, luggage and the journeys you usually make. For an electric vehicle, establish where you would charge it and check the manufacturer’s specifications. Avoid assuming you can install equipment at home without confirming the property arrangements.
If your plan would be to sell the prize, first check whether that is allowed and whether any conditions apply. Do not treat the advertised retail price as an assured resale value or budget on the assumption of a quick sale.
Keep unanswered questions visible
A car competition may still be worth entering when you need more information. The useful distinction is between “I have checked this” and “I am assuming this”. Keep a copy of the relevant terms and ask the organiser about any point that would change whether you could accept the vehicle.
